<image:caption>Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Julia Tsuchiya-Mayhew is an active freelance trumpet player and teacher in the DMV area, mainly performing orchestral and chamber music. She most recently graduated with her master’s degree in trumpet performance at University of Maryland, studying with Chris Gekker. Julia was a member of the fellowship brass quintet program there, known as Terrapin Brass, where they performed regularly in recitals and outreach concerts at local schools. She was also a member of Anima Brass Quintet, a freelance group that specialized in performing contemporary music in the DMV area. During her summers, Julia has played trumpet in orchestral music fellowship programs all over the country, such as the National Orchestral Institute, National Repertory Orchestra, and Festival Napa Valley Blackburn Music Academy. Before moving to Maryland, she earned her bachelor’s degree in trumpet performance at Northwestern University and freelanced in the Chicago area.</image:caption>
